National Guideline for Hypertension 1998

Hypertension is a major public health problem in virtually all parts of the world, as well as in South Africa. Primary health care services should be the stronghold of hypertension control. The goal of the guideline is primary prevention of high blood pressure through integrated measures to facilitate a healthy lifestyle (primordial prevention) and secondary prevention by reducing cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, renal and retinal damage associated with hypertension.
