Pharmacy Month is rational medicines use intervention and is scheduled on the Health Awareness Calendar for the month of September every year. Pharmacy Month provides pharmacists and pharmacy support personnel with the opportunity to further improve patient awareness regarding their vital role in using medicines appropriately, and to foster the understanding of the importance of pharmacists and pharmacy support personnel in the provision of quality healthcare. Pharmacy Month also aims to raise patient awareness on the vital role pharmacists can play in the community's healthcare and to improve communication between patients and pharmacists and pharmacy support personnel.
The approved theme for 2023 is "Pharmacy United in Promoting Healthcare for Patients"- The public health benefits of adverse drug reaction reporting, immunization and antimicrobial stewardship; with the following three subthemes:
- Access to primary healthcare (PHC) services;
- Public health education (including adverse drug reaction reporting); and
- Antimicrobial stewardship
